Surfer Magazine Apparel

Action sports. Clothing. Accessories. Retail Brand Building.

In the mid-2000's Surfer Magazine presented me with the challenge of taking an iconic heritage brand, creating compelling apparel, and building a business in a competitive and fickle specialty retail landscape.

Over the course of 20 months, along with a small team and the help of our friends at Surfer Mag, we built a full lineup of products and accessories. We we in retail at over 80 retail surf locations on both US coasts, Hawaii and Puerto Rico.

For nearly two years I submerged myself in clothing design, sourcing and brand management. With some amazing guidance from surf industry vet Ron Yoshida, I cut my teeth directing the brand down to smallest details, like eyelet colors on boardshorts.

Working with Surfer gave me my first exposure to larger-scale event planning and trade-show presentation. Along with Gomez Whitney, we built a 20x20 handmade booth complete with a speaker soundwall, inlaid graphics, and multiple custom elements.

Apparel, accessories and more. Building the apparel brand with Surfer Magazine was amazing.
